Something to “Wine” About

If you’re looking for an excuse to drink a well-deserved glass of your favorite wine and cook a delicious, homemade dish, you’ve come to the right place. Try out these white wine and food pairings for a combination that will have your pallet exploding with flavor. CHARDONNAY We recommend a meaty fish or shellfish to pair with this buttery white wine. Shrimp and grits or crab mac and cheese would pair amazingly well.   MOSCATO Moscato is typically a very sweet wine, so pairing it with spicy foods can balance the pallet. Try out spicy chicken curry with long grain rice.   PINOT GRIGIO This wine is best with pasta. If you’re looking to whip up a citrusy lemon chicken piccata or savory spaghetti carbonara, pinot is the right choice.   RIESLING To bring out the acidity and sweetness of…

Oak vs. Stainless Steel Barrels, Which One’s Better?

One of the most important aspects of winemaking is the aging process. Aging processes have come a long way as wine has almost always been aged in oak barrels, giving the wine the delicate tastes and aromas such as nutmeg, cedar, clove, and other various spices. So, the question is… why might winemakers choose to…

National Red Wine Day “Another Day to Wine About”

If sweet wines aren’t your favorite and you felt a little left out on International White Wine Day, have no fear because it’s National Red Wine Day! Red wine lovers unite as we give you some delicious meals to prepare while enjoying a glass (or two) of wine.   CABERNET SAUVIGNON Pair this full-bodied red wine with simply prepared red meat to bring out its rich, savory flavors.   MALBEC This wine pairs great with bold flavors like blue cheese. It’s also known to be fantastic Portobello stuffed mushrooms and cumin spice.   PINOT NOIR Because this wine is light enough to enjoy with pieces of fish, we recommend pairing this red with grilled salmon with asparagus.   ZINFANDEL Zinfandel is best paired with pasta, pizza and barbecued dishes so we’d suggest a barbecue chicken pizza to be paired with…

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day from San Diego Beer and Wine Tours!

Green beer is okay, but “going green” on one of our train tours is much better! We have barely recovered from Valentine’s Day, but St. Patrick’s Day is nearly upon us. As we adore Ireland with every fiber of our being (that’s where our lovely Shira Bliss is from!) we are happy to share some insider love with you. Now, you could celebrate the old-fashioned way – by pinching people and drinking green beer until you can’t look at anything green for the next month – but why go that route? Let’s Get Shamrocked! Here are our suggestions. Don’t let its reputation fool you. Ireland is not just a country of craic and Guinness. It is also a land of epicures and microbreweries, which in recent years have started springing up like mushrooms after a rain. Unfortunately, not many Irish…
